Mitos bisnis amoral mengungkapkan suatu keyakinan bahwa antara bisnis dan moralitas atau etika tidak ada hubungan sama sekali. Bisnis tidak punya sangkut paut dengan etika dan moralitas. Keduanya adalah dua bidang yang terpisah satu sama lain. Etika justru bertenatangan dengan bisnis yang ketat, maka orang bisnis tiak perlu memperhatikan imbauan-imbauan, norma-norma dan nilai-nilai moral.

Secara umum etika dapat dibagi menjadi etika umum dan khusus. Etika umum pada dasarnya berbicara mengenai norma dan nilai moral, kondisi-kondisi dasar bagi manusia untuk bertindak secra etis, bagaimana manusia mengambil keputusan etis, teori-teori etika, lembaga normative dan semacamnya. Etika umum sebagai suatu ilmu atau filsafat moral dapat dianggap sebagai etika teoritis
Sedangkan etika khusus yaitu penerapan prinsip-prinsip atau norma-norma moral dasar dalam bidang kehidupan yang khusus. Dalam hal ini, etika tidak lagi hanya sekedar meneropong perilaku dan kehidupan manusia, melainkan memberi aturan sebagai pegangan, pedoman maupun orientasi praktis bagi setiap orang dalam kehidupannya.
